Weight Management

  1. At Natures Healing we believe in lasting results instead of crash diets. In most cases, obesity is not a result of overeating. There could be underlying factors contributing to the overweight. Our first recommendation would be a consultation to find out the root cause of obesity or weight gain. In most cases, we would find an imbalance of hormones, a virus, bacteria, or fungus that could be the cause. One the cause is treated and the body is brought to balance, A specific tailor-made plan would be mapped out to achieve the end result, by way of:

Natural supplements (to help curb appetite/burn fat ).

Did you know?
Alleurites Mollucana L. (Willd) is a plant from the Euphorbiaceae family and it is from Indonesian and Malaysia and well adapted to the climatic conditions of the south and southeast of Brazil. It was introduced in Brazil in the 1980s as an ornamental tree and is an important source of oil used in tanneries. Alleurites Mollucana is a medicinal plant popularly used to treat pain, fever, asthma, hepatitis, gastric ulcer and inflammatory process in general.
Alleurites Molluccana is a medium – sized tree with a large spreading crown that can reach 20m in height and 0.9m trunk diameter, although it typically grows to 10 – 15m in open areas. In narrow valleys A. moluccana usually has a branchless trunk and achieves its greatest height.
Seed preparation: To extract the seeds, the fruits are pressed or lightly beaten, and then washed and dried. If the fruits are fresh, they are allowed to decay a few days in a moist area, which makes it easier to peel off the thick, leathery outer husk. This exposes the hard shell that encloses the seed. There are about 100–120 seeds per kg with the husk removed and shells on. Typically, germination is about 80% over the course of several months. To improve the germination rate, bad seeds can be floated off in water
There is 7 important components in the seed known as Alleurites Molluccana

  • Oleic Acid
  • Linoleic Acid
  • Flavonoids
  • Stearic Acid
  • Plant Strolls
  • Palmitic Acid
  • Triterpenses

Oleic Acid:
The study shows that Oleic Acid is inserted into the cell membrane and regulates signalling mediated by G-Protein couple receptors. These signals are exercising control of blood pressure, hence its cardiovascular benefits reducing blood pressure and cell multiplication which protects against cancer and cell over growth. Oleic Acid is one of the most important oils in the nut.

Linoleic Acid:
Linoleic Acid reduces body fat and increases muscle mass. Improves the immune system and reshapes the body figure. Linoleic Acid acts as an antioxidant, preventing he onset of certain diseases and premature aging by neutralizing free radicals.

Flavonoids:
Many flavonoids are shown to have anti oxidative activity, free-radical scavenging capacity, coronary heart disease prevention, and anticancer activity, while some flavonoids exhibit the potential for anti–human immunodeficiency virus functions. Flavonoids are a group of bioactive compounds that are extensively found in foodstuffs of plant origin. Their regular consumption is associated with reduced risk of a number of chronic diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and neurodegenerative disorders. Flavonoids are classified into subgroups based on their chemical structure: flavanones, flavones, flavonols, flavan-3-ols, anthocyanins and isoflavones. Their actions at the molecular level include antioxidant effects, as well the ability to modulate several key enzymatic pathways. The growing body of scientific evidence indicates that flavonoids play a beneficial role in disease prevention, however further clinical and epidemiological trials are greatly needed. Among dietary sources of flavonoids there are fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and spices. Consumption of these substances with diets appears to be safe. It seems that a diet, rich in flavonoids, is beneficial and its promotion is thus justifiable.

Stearic Acid:
Stearic acid is a long-chain saturated fatty acid. However, in contrast with other saturated fatty acids, stearic acid apparently does not raise serum cholesterol concentrations. Studies carried out three decades ago provided strong suggestive evidence that this was the case. More recent investigations that specifically compared stearic acid with other fatty acids in human studies have confirmed that stearic acid is not hypercholesteraemic. Stearic acid was shown not to raise low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol relative to oleic acid, which is known to be neutral in its effects on cholesterol concentrations. In contrast, palmitic acid, another long-chain saturated fatty acid, definitely raises cholesterol concentrations. For this reason, fats rich in stearic acid might be used in place of those high in palmitic acid in cholesterol-lowering diets.
Plant Sterols:
Antiviral retain proteins essential for muscle growth and maintenance. Plant sterols (when taken at 2 g/day) cause significant inhibition of cholesterol absorption and lower LDL-C levels by between 8 and 10%. The relative proportions of cholesterol versus sterol levels are similar in both plasma and tissue, with levels of sterols being 500-/10,000-fold lower than those of cholesterol, suggesting they are handled similarly to cholesterol in most cells. The cholesterol lowering effect of plant sterols is well documented in the literature. It is now accepted, after much earlier scientific debate and study, that 4-desmethyl plant sterols, either in their free or esterified form, decrease blood levels of total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol through reduction of cholesterol absorption.

Palmitic Acids:
The structure of the triglycerides (TG) in human milk (HM) differs from those of vegetable oils used in infant formulas. In HM, palmitic acid is predominantly esterified to the centre or β-position of the TG, in vegetable oil, it is mainly at the external or α-positions. These differences in configuration affect intestinal fat absorption.

Triterpenes:
The results suggest that tested Triterpenes may have the potential to provide significant natural defence against human breast cancer.

Ketogenic diet – Beginners Guide and FAQ’s

The ketogenic diet is a way of eating that is very low in dietary carbohydrates. Perhaps you are wondering about trying “to go Keto”, but have some questions. What are the health benefits? And what are the concerns?

This guide will take a look at the most common questions concerning Keto.

What is the Keto lifestyle?
A ketogenic diet is an eating plan that emphasizes high-fat, moderate-protein, and low-carb. Keto restricts carbohydrates to a level that results in the body-switching to burning fat for fuel with a wealth of health and performance benefits.

How dies the Keto Diet work?
When we are eating large amounts of carbohydrates, our body stores them as glycogen in our liver and muscles in this case the body will burn this carbohydrate as its primary source of energy.

However, when we restrict carbohydrates, after a few days our body becomes deprived of glycogen and is required to use a new energy source – fat. This is done by converting fatty acids into Ketones through the liver. This state of nutritional Ketosis.

Ketosis may sound like a radical change of the body, it is a normal metabolic state. In fact, primal humans spent significant amounts of time in nutritional ketosis throughout our history. Only in modern society have we had access to so much sugar and carbs.

Nutritional ketosis is different from diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), which typically only occurs as a result of the poor unforeseen management of diabetes (particularly Type 1 or insulin-dependent Type 2).

What are the signs or symptoms of Ketosis?

For some people, they will experience some symptoms during the adoption phase. Such as:

  • Sudden weight loss (Mainly due to losing water weight
  • Feeling of fatigue and lethargy while the body adapts to burning fat, van be for a few days to a week.
  • Decreased performance in the gym/sports. Can be 2-4weeks during high-intensity efforts
  • Better satiety reduced appetite and fewer food cravings.
  • Bad breath (a kind of metallic taste in the mouth)

How can I tell if I’m in Ketosis?
If you wish to track this, you can use urinalysis to have a better idea. This involves using something called a urine ketone strip/stick. The color of the strip changes will represent the number of ketones in the urine.

Ketone strips are not a 100% foolproof method to measure your level of ketosis, but they generally work well.

Is Ketosis bad for you?
No, ketosis is a normal metabolic state that the body can freely enter and leave when carbohydrates/ food intake is low. There can be some required adjustments in people with diabetics who use insulin.

We are all different as is individual carb tolerance so you will need to find the carb intake that is the best for you. We do know that a diet is low in sugar and carbs is good for almost everyone.

Millions of people around the world are safely doing ketogenic diets. Reviews show that very low carb diets result in better long-term weight loss than low-fat diets and tend to reduce cardiovascular risk factors more than low-fat diets doe. It is important to research the do’s and don’ts before starting.

What happens to the body in Ketosis?
When your body switches away from burning carbohydrates to use fat for fuel many positive things happen.

  • It up-regulates fat-burning enzymes.
  • Our liver begins converting fatty acids into ketones for fuel.
  • Blood glucose and insulin levels typically fall due to the small amount of dietary sugar/ carbohydrates
  • Inflammation decrease due to the types of foods.

Is Keto Good for losing weight?
Individuals starting keto usually experience significant weight loss. Early weight loss is largely due to glycogen reduction (carbs and water) due to reduced carb intake. A wealth of studies show that low carb ketogenic diets beat low-fat diets for weight loss at the 3, 6 and 12-month mark.

Overall, the key to sustainably losing weight is adapting and adopting the lifestyle. It’s not a crash diet for short-term weight loss; it’s more a way of committing to a longer-term healthy lifestyle.

What foods should I avoid or restrict?

Restrict the following foods

  • Whole grains
  • Cakes, cookies, and pastries
  • Sugar (and any foods that contain it)

  • Carbs 10%
  • Protein 20 – 25%
  • Fat 70- 75%

Should I take supplements on a Keto Diet?
It’s better to get nutrients from food rather than a synthetic vitamin/mineral tablet. A diet rich in a variety of nutrient-dense food is unlikely to necessitate additional vitamin or mineral supplementation.

Taking additional Sodium, magnesium and potassium supplements can be a big help to people first starting a ketogenic diet.

Besides, many people find using Exogenous ketones useful to reduce the symptoms of keto flu Keto Fast Track offers additional electrolyte minerals and exogenous ketones.

 Should I fast on Keto?

Intermittent fasting has been shown to have health benefits particularly for overweight people and those attempting to reverse type 2 diabetes. These health benefits may include better weight management, and lower blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

Is Keto good for athletes?
Many athletes are performing well on ketogenic diets. Fully keto-adapted athletes may be able to perform equivalent or better than that of carbohydrate-fulled athletes. There are many benefits to performance and long-term health for athletes.
