Alpha lipoic acid is a naturally occurring compound found in our body and in certain foods. ALA is present within mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of the cells. It is used to break down carbohydrates to produce energy.  It works at a cellular level and serves antioxidant which protects cells from the negative effects of free radicals.
